MPC - Now part of your complete breakfast. . .

do bem - Suco de Laranja 100% fruta (MPC de torradas) from Hardcuore on Vimeo.

This is an amazing advertisement for Brazilian Juice featuring an MPC made out of breakfast. I love this not only because the MPC is my favorite instrument, but it shows how Hip Hop has truly taken root all around the globe; and yes, it's very cute too.

On a deeper note, the MPC is a curious and wonderful instrument. Curious and wonderful in that it doesn't make any sound on it's own but when you pair it with a user it suddenly has the potential to make any sound. I've always been somewhat obsessed with learning how to play new instruments solely for the satisfaction of making a new sound on my own, so on my discovery of such a beautiful machine that could become whatever instrument or noise I want, I knew I needed one. Several year s of owning one and I'm still taken by its functional beauty, understated style, and the fact that I can turn any sound into music. If you want to see some MPCs in action check out these videos too:

A killer MPC solo
Pete Rock on our favorite instrument
Another sweet solo from EGADZ

Enjoy!

Lil' Thom is coming to town!

Breathe Los Angeles. Just breathe. Pause for a second and look around you. Or not. The city will not notice either way. But consider what you might see if you were not so distracted ignoring all the distractions that exist in this frothy metropolis of ours. That man on the corner who throws a cup into the street and then yells at the passing cars about it. That sign over there really does say "99 cent Empanadas." And yes, P. Diddy's face is painted on two very large buildings on the same street. Pretty neat huh? There's no question of whether LA is the greatest city in the world because I couldn't tell you if it were. No, here we do not have time to worry whether or not this is the best place to live because it's February, it's 80 degrees outside, and there only 4 days, 16 hours, and 46 minutes left until the greatest musical match up of all time will take place: Radiohead and Lil' Wayne will share the stage at the Grammy's.

Now, it has not been rumored that these two giants of contemporary music will do a medley of Tha Carter III and In Rainbows while all the members of Coldplay are forced through a black hole opened up by the mixture of Wayne's and Johnny Greenwood's guitar sounds, where, my eighth grade science teacher assures me, they will be "spaghettified" as they bare witness to the end of a universe in which they exist. Unfortunately most of these things will not happen. However, I am fairly certain that Radiohead's mysterious urge to attend AND perform at the Grammy's can only be due to their deep love of Gangster Rap and the swarming biddies that know all the lyrics to Lollipop by heart.
